Welcome, Gina Marano

We warmly welcome Gina Marano as a new PhD student in the Forest Ecology Group!

Gina graduated in Forestry and Environmental Sciences at the University of Padua (Italy) with a MSc thesis on the valorisation of wood by-products for energetical purposes. She worked for 2 years as research fellow at the University of Naples Federico II (Italy) on the development of informatic tools over geoSpatial Decision Support Systems to support Sustainable Forest Management practices at local scales. She also tested soil physical processes effects on forest stand productivity within the 3D-CMCC (Three Dimensional-Coupled Model Carbon Cycle) FEM model developed by the National Research Council of Italy. Her PhD research at ETHZ will focus on developing alternative formulations of soil water dynamics to better represent drought effects on tree establishment, growth, mortality and competition over the stand-scale model ForClim.
